Dispelling Myths

Every tense situation brings a number of myths and half-truths. I would like to set the record straight to avoid any kind of speculation. I have no reason to lie or hide the truth in any way. If you have any further questions or need clarification on anything, you can always contact me directly (e-mail pata@cvut.cz)

Myth: Páta is part of the former rector's inner circle.

Truth: I was not part of the "inner circle." As a dean elected by the Senate, I stood outside the rector's office and was critical of many things. I conducted fair but firm negotiations and asserted my own position. That is one of the reasons I am running. I want more trust, predictability, and fair rules for all faculties.

Myth: Páta will appoint some of his vice-deans as vice-rectors.

Truth: I have not promised anyone a vice-rector position. I will decide on the team after the election, through an open selection process and based on recommendations from the deans of all faculties. I don't want "my people," I want the best people for CTU. I will publish and defend all names and reasons.

Myth: Páta is connected to another candidate.

Truth: I am not running in tandem with any other candidate. Each of us has our own program and vision for managing CTU. From the moment we became rivals, we limited our consultations for reasons of transparency. I respect the work of my colleagues, but I am running independently and take full responsibility for my program.

Myth: Páta is making pre-rector contracts.

Truth: I have not promised anyone any position. I do not want anyone whose support I have bought with a promised position. The Senate must be clear about this, so the criteria and nominations will be explained clearly. Some may bet on backroom deals; I bet on an open and transparent process.

Myth: Páta wants to be a minister and will not devote himself fully to the position of rector.

Truth: I don't want to be a minister; I have enough work at CTU. And there is more than enough waiting for the future rector. That is why I will do it fully and without any side commitments in politics or the private sector. But if I do run away somewhere, it will be to teach. That means a lot to me, and I would like to devote at least some of my time to it during my term.

Myth: Páta is only a candidate for his faculty.

Truth: I am running for rector for all faculties. I have been doing this for years, long before I even considered running for office: I talk to people across CTU, get to know their specific needs and requirements, and look for solutions that make sense for the entire university. It comes naturally to me; I have always been concerned with CTU as a whole.
