Prof. Mgr. Petr Páta, Ph.D.

Who am I

Dean of FEL CTU. Teacher. Scientist. Volunteer.

I have been part of CTU since 1994 - as a lecturer, department head, study programme guarantor, and currently as the dean of its largest faculty. My expertise lies in imaging technology and photonics, and I have long strived to connect technical education with real-world practice and society. I believe that a university should not only be a place of top-tier knowledge, but also a good environment for studying, working, and living.

For more than twenty years, I have volunteered with children, especially those with specific needs. An organization I founded, Duha Jasmín (Rainbow Jasmine), organizes camps and year-round programs that develop skills and self-confidence. This work has taught me patience, respect for individual needs, and trust in every person's potential.

In my spare time, I focus on astrophotography. Observing the night sky reminds me that science is also about humility and curiosity.

Why I'm Running for the Office

I am running for rector of CTU because, over the past six years as a member of the rector’s board, I have repeatedly raised concerns about how the university is managed. I believe that those who criticize must also be ready to take responsibility and contribute to meaningful change. Our university holds exceptional potential — academically, socially, and as a community. I understand the diversity of our faculties and the needs of their students, staff, and faculty members. Under my leadership, CTU will be strong and stable, yet open to the changes that will move us forward.

It is used not only by me, but also by students who conduct their own observations and astrophotography. I believe it is personal experience that sparks curiosity — and curiosity that sets us on the path to truly understanding the world around us.

What They Say About Me

words are both a responsibility and a source of
motivation for me.

Technical education is the foundation of the future of Czech industry. At Škoda Transportation, we rely on a wide range of graduates from the Czech Technical University in Prague – from electrical engineering to transportation and mechanical engineering. We collaborate with them on research, development, and advancement in railway electromobility. For this collaboration to grow, we need university leadership that understands the needs of industry while respecting academic values.

Professor Páta has such experience – as dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, he connected the university with companies and supported dozens of practical projects. I believe that this kind of leadership can move CTU forward.

The development of transport infrastructure is not possible without close links between technical education and the application sphere. As administrators of strategic state projects, we know how crucial a role CTU plays in this – and how important it is for the university to be led by management with experience in both worlds.

I see Professor Petr Páta as someone who understands technology, respects continuity, and understands the responsibility that universities have towards society. His approach to leadership is practical, realistic, and open to cooperation — qualities that are more valuable today than ever before.

I have known Professor Páta for 30 years as an expert with exceptional erudition and integrity. He is able to effectively connect the world of science with the sphere of application, while maintaining high moral credibility and sensitivity to the needs of diverse actors – from students and scientists to company representatives and the general public.

I appreciate his empathy, his ability to listen, and his approach to problems, which is not only systematic and strategic, but also sensitive to individual situations and the human dimension of the academic environment. He is able to listen patiently and explain complex technical issues across disciplines in an understandable way.

From my own experience, I can confirm that Prof. Páta inspires those around him and encourages innovative thinking. I am convinced that he would perform the role of CTU rector with the utmost responsibility. I therefore fully support his candidacy.

I began working with Professor Petr Páta in 2011, when we met as co-researchers in the European GLORIA project, which aimed to build a global intelligent network of robotic telescopes for astronomical observations. Our collaboration continued even after the end of this project, and Petr Páta and I became not only colleagues but also friends.

I have always admired Petr's decisiveness, scientific erudition, organizational skills, and ability to navigate even very complex problems flawlessly. Even more important to me was his helpfulness, openness, and, above all, his willingness to help. Professor Petr Páta is able to work with maximum commitment and enthusiasm, while fully understanding the needs of all members of his team. I am convinced that Petr Páta would be an excellent rector of CTU.

I have known Petr for over 30 years from our collaboration at Duha Jasmín, an organization he founded for children with whom we worked at an educational and psychological counseling center. Even as a student, he showed deep empathy, calmness, and respect—both toward disadvantaged children and those who were exceptionally gifted.

When working with children and leaders, he helps them develop their abilities and find a path to personal growth. He resolves conflicts without hasty judgments and provides support even in moments of failure. Over the years, we have faced dozens of challenging educational moments together. Petr has always been willing to listen to all sides and seek solutions that lead to positive change.

He is a natural authority figure. He leads the team without imposing his own opinions. His approach is based on respect, rational thinking, and finding a path that benefits the whole, not the individual.

Prof. Páta combines organizational skills with humanity and humility. That is why I believe he is fully qualified for the role of CTU rector. Not only for what he can do, but for who he is.

We share Professor Páta's vision of a modern technical university that responds flexibly to current market needs. I appreciate his efforts to build an institution that combines study with practice and interdisciplinary education and actively strengthens the prestige of technical fields in society. I appreciate his emphasis on preparing the younger generation to master the technological innovations of today and use them effectively in practice. We agree on a number of key issues, from the needs of industry to the specific challenges facing the construction industry. I believe that the direction the professor wants to take will lead to high-quality technical education that will produce graduates prepared for the real challenges of industry, by extension construction. The construction industry needs such experts—not in a few years, but today.

The Czech industry, which undoubtedly includes all construction fields from design to implementation, needs high-quality technicians and engineers, whose training begins at the academic level. We have been cooperating with CTU students for a long time, and many of them work in our company. Mutual discussion and cooperation are necessary.

I very much welcome the professional discussion with Professor Páta and his efforts and specific goals to connect the university with the current needs of companies in the field, as well as his long-standing efforts to listen to us. Only in this way can Czech industry be truly effective and maintain its competitiveness and high modern professional standards.

Cooperation between CEZ and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague has a long and very strong tradition. We share a focus on top-quality education, technical excellence, and support for talented students in the fields of electrical engineering, energy, and physics.

Dozens of FEE CTU graduates are now successfully working within the CEZ Group, many of them in key positions in the field of nuclear energy. I am a graduate of FEL myself, and I appreciate the professional and technical advancement of education and the range of cross-disciplinary activities available to students. Their professional preparedness and ability to bring innovation to a technically demanding environment are the result of the high level of teaching that the faculty has long offered.

I greatly appreciate and personally enjoy participating in initiatives such as Physics Thursdays and other educational activities that FEE CTU opens not only to students but also to the wider professional public. Such activities contribute significantly to the popularization of technical fields and the development of professional discussion in the Czech energy sector.

I would like to thank the management of FEE CTU, led by Dean Petr Páta, whom I perceive as a strong personality with a clear vision, proven results, and a deep interest in the development not only of his faculty but also of the wider academic and professional community. Our cooperation is always constructive, objective, and moves things forward—which I consider extremely valuable.
